Toronto police are investigating after a man was shot in Regent Park on Wednesday morning.

Emergency crews were called to an apartment building at 220 Oak Street in the River Street and Gerrard Street East area shortly before 7 a.m.

EMS tells NewsTalk 1010 that the man who is in his 40's was shot at least twice in the upper torso.

He was treated at the scene and taken to a nearby hospital with non-life threatening injuries. He was said to be conscious and breathing when police and EMS arrived at the scene.

The man is believed to have made the 911 call himself but police have not confirmed that.

Police are looking for at least one suspect but haven't provided a description.
