UPDATE: GTA feeling the storm hangover today

Posted By: Justine Lewkowicz · 2/9/2013 10:24:00 AM

The snow may be done, but the GTA is feeling a bit of a storm hangover this morning.

Snow plows are still at work clearing all streets. Director of Transportation Services with the City of Toronto, Peter Noehammer, says the main roads have been plowed and the focus today will be a second round on the side streets. He says the snow clearing should be done by this evening.

Noehammer says the clearing will cost the city about $4-million out of its $82-million winter maintenance budget.

Environment Canada has provided snowfall amounts - 26 cm of snow fell at Pearson airport, 28 in downtown Toronto. Parts of St Catharines recorded 44 cm.

It has been a traveller's nightmare at Pearson Airport since the storm started. This morning, the arrivals and departures lists show a lot of yellow and red, for delays and cancellations.

150 arrivals today have been cancelled, and 75 departures.

Inside the airport, there have been long line-ups of people overnight trying to re-book flights.

If you are travelling this weekend out of Pearson or Billy Bishop airport, make sure to check your flight status before you head for the airport.
