UPDATE: SIU investigating shooting on Exhibition grounds

Posted By: Justine Lewkowicz · 2/10/2013 12:45:00 PM

Ontario's Special Investigations Unit is investigating after Toronto Police opened fire on a car that was seen leaving the scene of a shooting on the Exhibition grounds.

The situation got out of control when a fight broke out near Muzik nightclub at around 3:00am Sunday.

Soon after, police officers heard gunshots.  2 males were hit, one left with serious injuries.

A black, 4-door Honda Accord was seen driving away.

When the car refused to stop, police opened fire.

Two of the three people inside were hit by "projectiles," the SIU says.

They remain at St. Mike's Hospital.

Another person in the car was not injured and has been taken into custody by Toronto Police.

In a statement, the president of Muzik nightclub says the shooting did not take place on their property.

The SIU investigates incidents involving police where someone has died, been seriously injured, or there are allegations of sexual assault.

@Carol Ann READ the article first before you make your ridiculous assertions. I have noticed a pattern in your posts, they make no sense. THREE people were taken to hospital with gunshot wounds. Our police department is far from the LAPD, they have a tough job to do and don't need cop haters like you always trying to read things into what isn't there. I just love the way too you always say" our kids could have been there". Have a little more respect, those officers who do a dangerous job are someone's kids.

I am waiting to hear that the people in the car were simply trying to escape a dangerous situation at the bar. Perhaps they had nothing to do with the violence - fleeing to protect themselves. JASON - perhaps they are more like the LAPD than you want to believe.

@Mark If that is the case then why we're they the only car and why didn't they stop. Why is e ryone so ready to blame the police for everything?

First off Jason, police should not be discharging a weapon unless they were threatened with a gun. So Carolann and Mark have a point. I think you need to shut up and realise that police are to serve and protect..not shoot and ask questions later...relax your self cause your talking stupid shit!

What gets to me is to waste time and money with {SIU is investigating} When you and I know what the result of that investigation is going to be. May be we need to grow up and accept that we don’t need SIU for it is a makeup.

@EM EM I knew it was only a matter of time until you came on with your racist and tired opinions. We all know what you are going to rant about. You would say the police were wrong if someone had a gun pointed at their head. So, no one is going to take much stock of what you have to say. You could just copy paste any of your previous rants.

@ertsbor iroquois Yee Haw, all you cop hatin' folks who condone these idiots who carry and use illegal weapons might want to move to the land of Utopia where these things don't happen and cops don't have to try and maintain justice and protection. Maybe if you got a little more concerned over the people who commited the crimes some answers could be figured out. But blaming the cops for everything makes you look and sound like fools. Or maybe you hate the cops because you have something to hide.

@Jason, please pay less attention to me please..you do no know me, and I put my opinion out there, not for you to decide, who or what I am..re: me suggesting our kids, could have been there..well Jason, you see, I have a 14yr old grandaughter, that has just started going in to the city to many concerts, as her dad in the film business, gets her great seats..Now that place where those people were partying, just so happens to come to mind..my girl, would not be in a fleeing car, because, either one of her parents, stay downtown, and wait for her..but not every parent does..to have cowboys firing bullets into a fleeing car, is dangerous to all..and the police are there to protect..No I am going to mention ..I come from a long line of police, and I would like to think..that is not something, that comes to their mind first.. yes I got a bad habit Jason about worrying about our kids..and you keep for whatever reason..... waiting for the SIU because they are a great help!

@Carol Ann You assreted that the police are lawless and have no judgement, you also said it was a "friggin fight", yes it was a friggin fight with guns.Anyone who was in that car with illegal weapons knows exactly what will happen if the police know that they have been shooting guns. My point is stop berating the police for every little thing and respect and be grateful for them. Because if it came down to it they would take a bullet for you or me. They can't just let a car flee if the people in it had just been firing weapons, they can't and I don't want them to.

Who cares...why are tax dollars wasted on this...let the sons a bitches zhoot themselves into oblivion...its called thinning the heard..id give them all the ammo they could use and let them sort themselves out....who cares..

@matt I'd agree with you Matt if they weren't such horrible shots. I have no problem with bikers because they only take out other bikers without collateral damage. When these bangers break out the hardware they shoot wildly - probably as they're running away, cowards - not giving a single f@#k where the bullets fly. I'm fine with the animals killing other animals but too often innocents are caught in the crossfire.
