Update: Kachkar Blames Sister After Takedown

Posted By: Russ Courtney · 2/14/2013 8:01:00 PM

Pulled out of a snow plow by two members of the Toronto Police Emergency Task Force (ETF), Richard Kachkar was heard saying "this is my sister's fault," according to testimony from Sgt. Scott Payne.

Payne told court that once Kachkar's stolen plow hit a garbage truck at Keele and Humberside, two ETF vehicles pinned in the now 46 year-old man, firing three Tasers and two gunshots at him before pulling him out of the vehicle.

Kachkar was stopped just after 7 a.m. on January 12th, 2011 after striking and killing Toronto Police Sgt. Ryan Russell near Avenue and Davenport about an hour earlier.

The jury was told that before Kachkar was stopped he drove in opposite lanes, through red lights and into other vehicles around Toronto.

Three police officers told court that while following Kachkar he appeared to be yelling at them, although none of them actually heard what was said. One said it looked like he may have been crying.

Anthony Muhitch testified today that he was driving to his job as a teacher on the morning of Jan. 12, 2011, when he saw a truck with a plow on the front suddenly accelerate into an intersection and broadside the car in front of him.

Muhitch says the impact essentially took the car onto its hood and propelled it, spinning, into his own car.
