Authorities in California confirmed on Thursday that former Los Angeles police officer Christopher Dorner died in a mountain cabin.

His burned remains were identified through dental records.

Dorner triggered one of the biggest manhunts in recent memory after being linked to the killings of four people.

The manhunt ended this week when he was cornered in cabin that caught fire after tear gas was lobbed in.

The San Bernadino County medical examiner has yet to rule on how Dorner died, whether it was from the flames or from a single gunshot that was heard from the cabin as his violent shootout with police drew to a close.
