Speech From The Throne To Be Delivered

Posted By: Katie Franzios · 2/18/2013 10:30:00 PM

Despite revealing there will be points of friction with the opposition,  Kathleen Wynne has been confident in the days leading up to the Speech from the Throne.

The premier hopes opposition leaders will give her game plan for the upcoming legislative session a nod, with hopes of avoiding an election. However, Wynne says she can't judge what they may do.

Lt. Gov. David Onley will deliver the Speech from the Throne on Tuesday afternoon.

Despite reaching out to opposition leaders to get ideas, Wynne underlines she has still prepared a Liberal Speech from the Throne.

Wynne says she plans to touch base with both opposition leaders after the speech is delivered to continue with their discussions.

The Progressive Conservatives have been pushing for a more detailed deficit reduction and jobs creation plan.  PC Economic Development Critic MPP Monte McNaughton underlines Ontario needs change and so far, he hasn't seen new ideas from Wynne to address the province's finances.

The NDP have a wait and see attitude when it comes to the Speech from the Throne.

NDP House leader Gilles Bisson says they will be looking for some of their proposals on curbing youth unemployment, closing corporate tax loopholes and improving homecare.

    Predictions of opposition comments:
Hudak: "The throne speech lacked specifics."
Horwath: "We're disappointed that more of our suggestions are not present..."

    Reality of opposition comments:
To Hudak: (yawn) No throne speech ever has much in the way of specifics.
To Horwath: Just enough to let the NDP continue to "wait and see".

The dance (and the sniping) continue.

    Optimistic hopes:
    1. Bring on the power plants hearings
    2. Wrestle the debt/deficit downward
    3. Get the extra-curricular activities back up and running
    4. (To all 3 parties) Govern dammit !!
