The ex-police officer suspected of killing four people in Southern California also apparently killed himself.

Officials say evidence indicates Christopher Dorner shot himself in the head.

It's also believed that Dorner spent most of his time on the run in a condominium just steps away from the command centre set up to find him.

Dorner died in mountain cabin east of Los Angeles after a wild shootout with police.
