Thousands rally in Washington against Keystone XL pipeline

Posted By: Newstalk 1010 · 2/17/2013 2:17:00 PM

Thousands of people have gathered on the Washington Mall, urging the President to  make good on recent promises to fight climate change.

Organizers are billing the protest, as the biggest climate protest in American history.

TransCanada's proposed Keystone XL pipeline is the rally's most popular whipping boy. Protesters formed a human pipeline & many waved signs and chanted slogans against Keystone XL.

Canadian tribal leaders & movie stars are in the crowd.  So are Americans with ties to Canada & even a group of nuns.

US Secretary of State John Kerry says he'll make a decision on the project in the near term.

The pipeline would move crude from the Alberta oilsands to refineries along the US gulf coast.
