Posted By: James Moore · 2/17/2013 5:32:00 PM

A pair of Toronto police officers are being credited for helping save a newborn.

They were keeping watch over a baby that had been pronounced dead at a Toronto-area hospital on Sunday.

The infant was covered up with a sheet and Police were asked to watch over the body until coroners arrived.

Eventually, one of the officers noticed the baby stirring under the sheet.

Medical staff were called in and the child is now in stable condition but remains in the hospital.

Details on the circumstances surrounding this incident are still slim.

The two officers involved were not immediately available to speak to NEWSTALK 1010.

Reports say a woman gave birth to the baby on a sidewalk in the Jane-and-Finch area in Sunday morning's minus-double digit temperatures.

The newborn, the child's mother, and grandmother were taken to hospital by ambulance.

Its not clear what condition the baby was in when it arrived at hospital.
