Extra Curricular Discussions Continue

Posted By: Katie Franzios · 2/20/2013 4:41:00 PM

You won't be seeing extra curricular activities in your kids' schools on Thursday.

Despite a meeting with the Ontario Teachers' Federation (OTF) on Wednesday, Education Minister Liz Sandals says the subject wasn't top of mind.

She says the meeting was to focus on relationship building moving forward.

The OTF is an umbrella organization that represents all of the province's teachers unions.

Sandals wouldn't reveal how the province plans on compromising with the public teachers' unions when it comes to extra curriculars, however she says she' remaining positive.

The Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario (ETFO) has said a decision on the issue will be made by March 1st.

Sandals says meetings with both ETFO and the Ontario Secondary School Teachers Federation (OSSTF) will take place in the coming days.

There will be no extra-curricular activities or field trips until the teachers have agreed to a current contract. Promises of a new contract in 2014 will only bring extra-curricular activities and field trips back in 2014 at the earliest if and only if the teachers agree to a contract.
