Vaughan fails in bid to get spot on mayor's executive

Left-leaning councillors have failed to get one of their own onto the mayor's executive committee.

Councillor Adam Vaughan attempted to become the newest member, arguing that not a single ward from Toronto and East York is currently represented.

Instead, council voted to have Vince Crisanti, a Ford supporter, fill a hole that recently opened up on the committee.

Mayor Rob Ford told council he does not want "one of the tax and spend lefties" on his committee that will "disrupt" things.

Councillor Giorgio Mammoliti said that adding Vaughan would be like "bringing a bully to a bake sale."

Kristyn Wong-Tam, meanwhile, questioned what the harm would be in having a different voice on the executive. She says one voice would not derail the Ford agenda.

Another councillor, Mike Del Grande, told left-leaning councillors to "suck it up, be a man" for not making it onto the mayor's committees. He says that's what he was told during the Miller administration.

To that Vaughan told reporters after the vote that he can "suck it up." He vows to continue to fight the mayor on council.

@angela mular Yes, he certainly is one of the most toxic and downright unlike able councillors at City Hall....and that's going some. Hopefully he will be voted out in the next election. City TV thought the same, they got rid of him.
