UPDATE: 4 people shot in Whitby
A 19-year-old man is in critical condition after a shooting inside a Whitby apartment building.
4 men were hit by bullets inside 101 White Oaks Court around 12:30pm Thursday.
Durham Regional Police wouldn't say whether or not the victims knew each other, if they lived in the building or how old they are. 1 of the 3 men suffering non-life threatening injuries is reportedly 18-years-old.
White Oaks Court is no stranger to police cruisers. The community is made up of 4 high rises, each counting about 20 floors.
A woman who lives at 201 White Oaks but didn't want to give her name, says cops are on the street about 3 times a week. She says buildings 100 & 101 are notorious for fighting.
The street has made headlines in recent years for a string of fires, a major drug sweep & when a body was found in a ravine behind it.
On Thursday, most neighbours downplayed the regular visits from police. Samantha & Jillian who both live at 100 White Oaks reason with so many people in a such a small geographic footprint there's bound to be trouble.
Despite the shooting, Diane isn't worried the safety of her young sons who lives with her at 100 White Oaks. She says there's crime crime everywhere & having children grow up in fear does no good.
Police wouldn't say if drugs or gang activity may have played a role in the shooting. Despite a flood of information & leads, as of Thursday night, police didn't have a description of a suspect.
A black woman who lives at 201 White Oaks shook her head as she learned that according to witnesses, the men hit in the shooting were also black. She calls the shooting & the string of shootings in the GTA this month involving black children "disgusting" & called for parents in the black community to "step up".
