Poll Suggests Wynne Would Win Another Minority Government

Posted By: Suzette Francis · 3/5/2013 10:34:00 AM

PC leader Tim Hudak and NDP leader Andrea Horwath may have to pull-in their horns a bit.

Forum Research is out with a new robo-call poll showing that after just three weeks on the job,  Premier Kathleen Wynne's Liberals have moved into a statistical dead heat with the PC's and New Democrats.

When McGuinty was in charge the Liberals were running third for the past year.

Lorne Bozinoff, president of Forum Research says they way the polling numbers are concentrated,  the likely outcome would be another Liberal minority government with about the same number of seats for each party as the 2011 elections.

What Forum doesn't measure is how tentative the Wynne wave is. With the economy slowing,  jobs disappearing, scandals such as the cancellation of the Oakville and Mississauga gas plants looming, the support for the Liberals could evaporate in an instant.

    Well... let's put it this way. I was shocked the last time the Ontario voters put the Ontario Fiberals back into power. At that point, I lost every last ounce of faith I ever had for intelligent life in Ontario.

    If Ontario still wants to put them back in power after all their fiascoes, I'm starting to think that the Ontario Liberals could start tossing people into ovens and the voters of Ontario would still stick them in power. It takes a special kind of stupid to keep voting in the same party whose campaign platform consists primarily of breaking its own campaign promises. I don't even have to mention the gas plant and Ornge scandals, because apparently Ontario voters are okay with those.

    You can tell that after the last couple of elections, I don't have any faith at all in Ontario voters. We COULD have had an honest man in John Tory running the province.. Instead, Ontario much prefers the Fiberals. That says it all, right there. I'm certainly not a fan of all of John's ideas, but at least he's honest. I'd take that.

      @Angry Bill i think it has more to do with the people of the province seeing what the conservatives have on the table as far as policies and leadership. And they aren't buying either one!! in fact downright rejecting both.
      I do agree with you on John Tory though. He's a good man. respected man.

      @Angry Bill John Tory may be a good man, but he is a terrible politician, every time he has run he has lost soundly. His approach in the provincial elections was so bad he turned what should have been a sure thing into a walk away win for the Liberals. A good man does not necessarily make for a good leader! The PC party is desperate for a true dynamic leader. This poll was just a joke.

    Where did they do the survey? Downtown Toronto?
    The voters in Toronto must like to be lied to, and stolen from their government.

      @BRYAN Well, they seem to think Adam Vaughan is pretty swell.....that should tell you something right there.

    The polls also had George Smitherman and Rob Ford neck n neck, thank gosh they were way off.

    We've had several elections that are the conservatives to lose. Too bad those running the party haven't clued in to take advantage and those voting are too timid to try an alternative to legalized stealing.

    My fear remains that voters may give the ndp a mandate.

    They say the definition of insanity is doing the same think over and over again and expecting a different result. Just saying.

      @Jeff Well, I keep voting against the liberals over and over again, and I keep getting the same results.. I guess I'm insane.

    Personally I think Hudak should avoid an election and turn to Horvath and say "look, I know we agree only on really just how crooked mcguinty is, but the only way we are getting out of this as a province is through a coalition."

    By this point it is their only option. We need the liberals out of power, but Hudak has not proven himself to be competent enough to be leader without checks. Ideally it would be another party other than the NDP providing this, but this is the hand they've been dealt. The situation isn't going to get any better, and despite what was said federally a coalition between these two parties would respect our democratic traditions.

      @Keith m hudak is very intelligent, and even more capable. he is being smeared because he's not good looking. the announced policies are smart and achievable, and it's the only real option for the next election. anyone who thinks otherwise needs to give their head a shake; this province is underwater, and heading to the bottom.

    Let's review my post of February 12th:

    "Ontario is in for some very interesting posturing over the next 6 to 12 months from all 3 leaders.
    Despite rhetoric to the contrary, Tim Hudak can't afford another election now ...
    he has to attempt building the appearance of competence on his part first.

    Andrea Horwath understands that the No Damn Platform polling numbers are at their maximum now... short of where they need to be for any chance of success.

    And, last but not least, Kathleen Wynne must show a willingness to be everything not McGuinty. A good start is her appointment of Liz Sandals to Education and retaining the Agriculture portfolio herself.

    Stay tuned ... this will be quite a series of chess matches."

    The review:
    Hudak still manages to showcase his incompetencies despite lots of opportunity to show something else ... anything else. Additionally, he is cursed with the weakest "bench" of all 3 parties;
    Horwath rails against insurance companies in a transparent attempt to encourage public support; fails and returns to deserved obscurity.
    Wynne stays on track.

    The chess match has begun ... it's still very early in the game ...
    but the voters seem to have begun to sort things out for themselves.

    This is what they seem to see:
    Hudak remains a lightweight surrounded by other lightweights;
    Horwath still has No Damn Platform;
    Wynne appears to be the only one actually attempting to govern.

    Stay tuned idealogues ... the rest of the electorate is!

    If anyone votes Liberal knowing what we do about the lies and mismanagement of taxes, then they are either incredible fools or totally out of reality.

    There are (wasted) billions $$$$$$$$ of reasons to vote otherwise.
