Poll Suggests Wynne Would Win Another Minority Government

Posted By: Suzette Francis · 3/5/2013 10:34:00 AM

PC leader Tim Hudak and NDP leader Andrea Horwath may have to pull-in their horns a bit.

Forum Research is out with a new robo-call poll showing that after just three weeks on the job,  Premier Kathleen Wynne's Liberals have moved into a statistical dead heat with the PC's and New Democrats.

When McGuinty was in charge the Liberals were running third for the past year.

Lorne Bozinoff, president of Forum Research says they way the polling numbers are concentrated,  the likely outcome would be another Liberal minority government with about the same number of seats for each party as the 2011 elections.

What Forum doesn't measure is how tentative the Wynne wave is. With the economy slowing,  jobs disappearing, scandals such as the cancellation of the Oakville and Mississauga gas plants looming, the support for the Liberals could evaporate in an instant.

Well... let's put it this way. I was shocked the last time the Ontario voters put the Ontario Fiberals back into power. At that point, I lost every last ounce of faith I ever had for intelligent life in Ontario.

If Ontario still wants to put them back in power after all their fiascoes, I'm starting to think that the Ontario Liberals could start tossing people into ovens and the voters of Ontario would still stick them in power. It takes a special kind of stupid to keep voting in the same party whose campaign platform consists primarily of breaking its own campaign promises. I don't even have to mention the gas plant and Ornge scandals, because apparently Ontario voters are okay with those.

You can tell that after the last couple of elections, I don't have any faith at all in Ontario voters. We COULD have had an honest man in John Tory running the province.. Instead, Ontario much prefers the Fiberals. That says it all, right there. I'm certainly not a fan of all of John's ideas, but at least he's honest. I'd take that.

@Angry Bill i think it has more to do with the people of the province seeing what the conservatives have on the table as far as policies and leadership. And they aren't buying either one!! in fact downright rejecting both.
I do agree with you on John Tory though. He's a good man. respected man.

@Stug Unfortunately, I have to agree with you there, Stug. What the other 2 parties are offering isn't exactly palatable to me, either.

However, the great Canadian tradition is we don't vote people into office, we vote them out of office, right?

@Angry Bill John Tory may be a good man, but he is a terrible politician, every time he has run he has lost soundly. His approach in the provincial elections was so bad he turned what should have been a sure thing into a walk away win for the Liberals. A good man does not necessarily make for a good leader! The PC party is desperate for a true dynamic leader. This poll was just a joke.

@Stephen Unfortunately the 2007 election campaign just highlighted the fact that Ontario voters have a love affair with McGuinty. The voters get the government they deserve and they do not deserve someone with honesty and integrity in the highest political office in the province. They deserve a bankrupt province and out of control government and that is what they have. Judging by the polls, they are willing to put the ball gag back in and grab their ankles for another thrashing, taking the rest of us along for the ride.

@Stephen If by "terrible politician" you mean "honest to a fault, and is basically incapable of lying or deceiving people", then yes.. I fully agree with you. John Tory certainly is a terrible politician. On the flip side, Dalton McGuinty is an excellent, very good politician.

So, if THAT's what you want running the province, Stephen, then I guess I already know who you're voting for in the next election.

You talk about John "losing" as if that in itself means something. It doesn't, really. You need to look at why he lost. An army of small people are fully capable of taking down a giant much greater than themselves. In fact, it is the tendency of small-minded individuals to collectively attack someone who proves themself to be better than they are. This predilection has proven itself many times in history. "How DARE you be better than we are? You.. you.. you're PRIVILEGED!!"

So don't ever call John Tory a "loser". You wanna know who the real losers are?

      Us.

@Stephen In fairness, he didn't lose soundly to David Miller. It was very close.
