Newstalk 1010 has learned that the memorial plaques thought to have been stolen from the Highway of Heroes have been found.

The True Patriot Love Foundation had reported two plaques stolen from the Victoria Park overpass, saying they had been taken down between December 2012 and February 2013. Police got involved in the investigation.

The foundation tells Newstalk 1010 that the plaques have been found, turned into police. Police say the plaques were taken down for bridge maintenance.

A representative with the foundation says they are relieved the plaques have been found.

The plaques are brass and measure approximately 18" x 24". They contain an image of people overlooking the Highway of Heroes as a soldier walks hand in hand with a child below a waving Canadian Flag. The plaques contain sponsorship logos identifying Enbridge.

The plaques located at various points along the Highway of Heroes are a tribute to the efforts and sacrifices of members of the Canadian Armed Forces. They have been posted through the efforts of volunteers and are supported by both private and corporate charitable donations.
