Toronto teacher fired for offensive joke assignment
A Toronto drama teacher has been fired for handing out racist, sexist & violent jokes as part of an assignment.
Jeff Jones had been with the Toronto District School Board since 2001 & a teacher at Oakwood Collegiate for the last 8 years.
After Jones was let go Wednesday night, TDSB trustee Maria Rodrigues told Newstalk 1010 she "doesn't want teachers like that in our school board".
Jones distributed pages of off-colour 1-liners to his pupils, including jokes about dead babies, sexual violence & blondes. Students were told to pick 5 jokes & create skits based around them.
Rodrigues is "disturbed" that many students have been exposed to Jones' teaching method. Though it only came to light this month, the drama teacher had been circulating the jokes as part of class work for years.
Rodrigues suggested Jones may have also made offensive comments to students but didn't elaborate.
