Leafs and Raptors ticket prices going up next season

Posted By: Justine Lewkowicz · 3/13/2013 5:26:00 AM

Watching the Raptors dunk a ball and the Leafs score a goal is about to get more expensive.

Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment has announced that ticket prices are going up by 2.5 per cent in the 2013-14 season.

The company calls it a "cost of living" increase. MLSE president Tom Anselmi tells the Toronto Star that the company's costs have gone up in the form of player salaries, operating costs and league costs.

Option 1. How about icing a team that makes 2 play off rounds. The money from the exhorbitant playoff ticket prices, less the pitance the players get in the playoffs should more than cover the overhead
Option 2. Have the Marlies replace the Leafs and reduce the prices.

I agree with pretty much everything that John Tory says except what he said today on the Jim Richards crossover.

How many other teams are raising their prices for "cost of living"? BULL. Every year it's always the Leafs, the pathetic Leafs who haven't even made the playoffs since 2004 but the prices have continued to soar. MLSE is the worst thing to ever happen to hockey in this city and lord knows how much the lack of playoffs have cost this city in post-season revenue, not to mention how depressed this town has been since the end of the second-last lockout. Pathetic.

To me the problem with this is also the fact that as far as the Leafs, they have a monopoly and the building will always be filled by the corporates.
Another issue is that in fact the salary cap comes down next year for the Leafs, so salaries are going down.
Until there is competition they can get away with this.
