VIDEO: Subway Extension Site of Transit Funding Questions
By 2016, the York subway extension will be finished. Wednesday, the Premier and the Mayor went to visit the site to mark a new stage in the construction process.
They stood by the 407 and Jane, where a new station will be set up.
It's not close to being completed but TTC chair Karen Stintz joked that in three years, they make take a cue or two from the Vatican, sending up white smoke when everything is ready to go.
She says the tunnels should be finished in eight months.
After touring the the construction pit and stressing the importance of subways, Mayor Rob Ford was clear on his thoughts about bringing in road tolls to finance transit: it's not going not happen.
Ford says people just don't want tolls and he's not one to bring in a tax.
The mayor and the premier have yet to sit down and discuss the next steps for transit for the city, claiming their schedules just haven't matched up yet. Kathleen Wynne, however, says they have exchanged phone numbers and can pick up the phone for anything urgent.
