Public Funeral to be Held for Guelph Police Officer

The Guelph Police Service says a public funeral will be held next week for a 26-year-old officer who died in the line of duty this week.

Const. Jennifer Kovach was responding to a call when her cruiser crossed the centre line and hit a Guelph Transit bus early on Thursday morning.

The bus driver was treated for minor injuries and there were no passengers on the bus at the time.

Police Chief Bryan Larkin said in statement Friday night that the Kovach family has agreed to a public funeral that will be held March 21 at the Sleeman Centre in Guelph.

Kovach, a four-year member, was the daughter of longtime Guelph councillor Gloria Kovach.

Larkin said further details will be made public early next week and thanked the community for their support, care and compassion as the force mourns the loss of a colleague.
