City councillor wants police to taser coyotes

Another Toronto city councillor is chiming in on the coyote problem in parts of the city.

Gloria Lindsay Luby says when a coyote causes problems in a neighbourhood Toronto Police should taser the animal instead of killing it with a service revolver.

Councillor Glenn de Baermaeker wants the law changed so police are not allowed to shoot coyotes but he also wants a law to ban people from feeding these animals.

Lindsay Luby told the licensing and standards committee during a meeting on Tuesday, that sometimes we overreact and she would like to see her suggestion brought forth to Toronto Police Chief Bill Blair.

    Just shoot the ones we find that are being aggressive or not showing enough fear towards humans and leave the rest alone. The reality is in 2010 there was slightly more (average wise) than a dog attack in toronto every day. Coyotes are not the danger that the media are making them out to be.

    These councillors just continue to embarrass themselves openly. Best they stick to the important matters or running the city and leave these issues to experts. Keith you obviously do not know much about coyotes, a young lady from Toronto was killed in Nova Scotia several years ago by coyotes. A coyote will attack a young child given the opportunity. A coyote is not a fox that will run away unless cornered. In my opinion the media has not done enough to warn people about coyotes and why they should not feed them!!!

    Out here coyotes are constantly killing calves, sheep/goats, dogs, cats whatever they find. In Toronto it will be raccoons,skunks and YOUR PETS! Even large dogs ie German Shepherds can be taken down by a pair. In a municipality IN THE GTA
    pay outs for livestock kills (mostly by coyotes) was over $60,000.00 last year. Remember coyotes know how to kill, they do it EVERY DAY. Out here it's shoot, shovel and shut up.

    If we lived in a world where Cayotes were the dominant species and wild humans would form time to time invade their urban centres, would we want them to shoot and kill these wild humans or taser them and relocate them to Florida where the weather is nicer? Get a life.
