LISTEN: Province Eyes Federal Budget
The province wants a strong partnership with the federal government.
That's what Premier Kathleen Wynne emphasized this week when asked about Thursday's federal budget release. She highlighted transportantion initiatives and training.
Wynne says she wants a good infrastructure funding program given there are challenges not just in Ontario but all across the country. She says it could be money to help out with public transit in the GTHA or for roads in Northern Ontario.
She also underlined a need for good opportunities when it comes to skills training programs. She says that would allow the province to do what needs to be done on the ground - whether that means helping a young person get into a training program or someone who is older get back into the workforce.
The federal budget is believed to put an emphasis on skilled trades.
Finance Minister Charles Sousa says he wrote a letter to his federal counterpart about Ontario's concerns and needs, but Finance Minister Jim Flaherty never responded.
