TTC Board Members Says Fines For Blocking Intersection Should Be Raised

Posted By: Newstalk 1010 · 3/21/2013 9:20:00 PM

A TTC Board member is hoping council will take real action on cracking down on those people who block intersections with their cars.

Alan Heisey has written a letter to Chair Karen Stintz, hoping she will implore council to raise fines on those who block intersections.

Currently, those fines are only $40, he thinks the fines should be in the $150-$180 range.

He says blocking the intersection inconveniences thousands of TTC customers daily, and can be a real danger to pedestrians who are sometimes forced to walk into oncoming traffic to avoid the cars.

it woudl be great if the ttc was fined every time a street car blocks an intersection. Especially at the foot of spadins where the drivers seem to make a game of blocking traffic by moving out when the light has turned yellow blocking right turns there.Of course the money must not come out of the pockets of the rest of the tax payers but out of the driver's pay itself

every ttc driver that blocks an intersection should be personally fined, without the union paying the fine. if it's a streetcar which is the length of several cars the fine should be that multiple.

while we're at it, what about fining ttc drivers that run red lights, cut off cars, etc. fines aren't enough, they should be suspended then fired if they do it multiple times. won't happen as their union will file a grievance and win
