Baseball bat attack on Spadina now labelled a homicide
Toronto police are going to deliver an update to an assault that took place on Monday, September 30 at the intersection of Spadina Avenue and Baldwin Street. They now confirm that one of the victims has died of his injuries.
The homicide squad is now investigating the case which is the city’s 49th murder of 2013.
Officers arriving at the scene located three men, each of whom had been assaulted with a baseball bat. All three men were taken to hospital, one with life-threatening injuries.
That morning, witnesses reported seeing an SUV perform a U-turn and stop along Spadina Ave. Reportedly, people jumped out and joined the altercation to help a man that was being assaulted by another with a baseball bat.
Detectives are investigating the possibility that this incident may be linked to an altercation that occurred, around 2:45 a.m., outside of a nightclub in the Adelaide Street West and Portland Street area.
Investigators are especially asking members of the media with large Chinese and Vietnamese audiences to attend.
