Ford Brothers Host 'The City' on NewsTalk 1010

Posted By: Michelle Rosa · 2/23/2012 11:00:00 AM

Mayor Rob Ford and his brother Councillor Doug Ford have decided to take a shot at being talk show hosts and it'll happen right here on NewsTalk 1010.

They will be the new hosts of NewsTalk 1010's The City starting this Sunday from 1p.m. to 3p.m.

The show has become a very popular spot to discuss local politics and issues important to Torontonians.

The Mayor and Councillor Doug Ford made the announcement on NewsTalk 1010's Jerry Agar Show on Thursday morning.

"It's gonna be fantastic. We're gonna educate the people and explain what's going on in the city and they're gonna have a lot of fun every Sunday afternoon," says Mayor Ford.

"I think it's gonna be very informative, it's gonna be very controversial at times but you're gonna get the straight goods from Rob and I. You aren't gonna have the media twisting it around like they've constantly twisted it around for the last year and a half," say Councillor Ford.

@Barb Barb, turn your radio off, stick your head in the sand, that will solve everything. For you anyway. The rest of us want to know what the heck is happening.

This is good "Ford Nation"'news that won't sit right with Adam Vaughan and Christopher Hume types. Toronto "left-overs" never like a fair fight based on responsible freedom of speech. Go get 'em Ford Bros!

@Gregory Alan Elliott It's the Fords who do poorly whenever complete sentences are required. Go get 'em indeed.

@Gregory Alan Elliott Freedom of speech? Now the Ford's are really in trouble.

Bring it on! The more air time their idiocy gets, the more aware the rest of Toronto becomes of just how backwards and small-minded they are, and what little regard they have for the actual population of Toronto.
Give them a rope long enough and they will certainly hang themselves.

Whither Josh Matlow? Did he jump or was he pushed? No mone mushy middle or lefties questioning everything Ford. "Twas a leftie love-in for a while....

@ExpectationCoachBrian Who is really behind all this Ford act? I have always wondered that from day one. It is just incredible that the Brothers believe they can get away with their foolish ideas and brutish bullying. Harper must be really enjoying what the Fords are doing to Toronto and living vicariously through them.

      @ExpectationCoachBrian my sentiments exactly...
Josh was okay for awhile then it got to his head and things started to change on "The City"..I hope the Fords do well...I am looking forward to hearing their side .

haha... im just hearing Ford on the radio on Agar saying he doesn't listen to critics he just listens to the taxpayers.
I'm a critic so does that mean i don't have to pay my taxes??
What did we do to deserve this??

Hey, we have a show that brings in all-sides to talk respectfully about City Issues - better STOP that...

Just wondering if it is a Conflict-of-Interest for the Mayor to be hosting a weekly 2-hour show on the Astral Media network, when the City of Toronto has a 20-year "Street Furniture" contract with Astral Media Outdoor LP...?

@Mark Richardson So why was Josh Matlow allowed on the show and my complaint with Integrity commissioner ignored....??

My question for the twinfords, how much subway could you have built with the million dollars its going to cost to fire Webster? If you think a million is high, think again, two years salary minimum, plus damages for lost consulting work.

1010 Out Of Their Depth Radio strikes again!

Mayor Quimby gets his own radio show. Please tell me that Jerry Agar is going to join them as well. Jerry is to the understanding of economics, as O.J. was to marriage counselling.

Roll on Sunday, I can't wait for Mayor Quimby to "educate the people."

Hi Jerry; I was the GM for a small community radio station in Haldimand and created a campaign for the county that included a weekly talk show for the Mayor. Thinking it is a great idea and immediate way for the people to talk and voice their opinion to their elected official which is challenging, unless during an election. The campaign has not started as yet. Now it will look like our Mayor stole it from you guys. I will listen. Way to go 1010.
    Margaret.

I stopped listening to cfrb when John moore and Jim Richards started their shows. Maybe with the Fords coming online,I might listen. To all those whiners who feel oppressed, it is about time someone puts an end to the socialist agenda. The left(the majority of the whiners) will not be happy until all is lowered to the lowest denominator.
Good for the ones who say,I'm as mad as hell and I won't take it anymore!
    1. SophieK_1215 posted on 02/23/2012 11:29 AM
@Dougg If you stopped listening I find it amusing that you've posted here. That aside, tune in to Jerry Agar between 9-12 weekdays. No, I don't work for the station I'm just a listener with an open mind and a bent toward logic.
    2. ACMESalesRep posted on 02/24/2012 12:38 AM
@Dougg I can't be the only one to see the irony in someone claiming that they stopped listening because they didn't like the hosts while labelling other people whiners, can I?

As soon as you start calling people names, you lose any credibility you might have had. There's a lesson for many members of Ford Nationโ„ข in that.

I would rather listen to "all-traffic radio". Used to enjoy politics-free programming on the weekends when there were interesting shows. More politics? Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

The way I see it anyway.
  15. EllenP posted on 02/23/2012 11:05 AM
I agree that it is better to hear it from the horse's mouth. While I am neither left or right but somewhere in the middle I like to hear what our politicians have to say unscripted. I am looking forward to this show. It will either reinforce my present opinion or change it. The mayor of a city as big of Toronto is worth listening to.

"We're gonna educate the people ..."

Translation: we know the people are ignorant and need to be taught what is right and wrong, according to us.

Use of the word 'educate' is not respectful, it is condescending.
    1. SophieK_1215 posted on 02/23/2012 11:34 AM
@calvinhc So the TDSB is condescending...what should they say "we're going to bring kids in and ....what???
    2. JohnW posted on 02/24/2012 01:06 AM
@calvinhc At least they use the word "gonna" every other sentence and not the F-word (not to be confused with the Ford word).

I feel Mr. Ford was voted in , by a huge number of people, based on his mandate of a subway. Please allow him to get on with it! I think it's terrific that The Ford Brothers will be doing a radio show and I glad that the CFRB station are giving them a chance to be available for the people. I only hope that this doesn't mean that The Toronto Daily Star is giving equal time to Ms. Stintz by giving her a column. Then again since I no longer read the Star, I wouldn't know if she had one or not.
Best luck to the Brothers and CFRB...
    1. calvinhc posted on 02/23/2012 08:11 PM
@CatherineJ Ford's 'mandate' was to "stop the gravy train" and cut City Hall waste.

Did he have a transit platform? Yes, eventually. Half way through the campaign he introduced a transit/transportation platform as a late-night YouTube posting, likely to not look like a one-trick pony.

His 'transit mandate' included such pie-in-the-sky ideas such as extending the Bloor-Danforth subway to Scarborough Town Centre using the existing SRC right of way to save money (an engineering impossibility), and taking ALL the money that the province had for the "5 in 10" plan and using it towards extending the Sheppard Subway both east and west. Only four of the five projects in the "5 in 10" plan were Transit City lines. He somehow forgot to tell York Region that he was planning to spend the billion and a half dollars they were getting for VIVA rapidways! Of course, York Region gave that up to support his 'mandate' -- NOT!

All through Ford's campaign, he earned an A+ for campaigning by repeating his message ("Stop the gravy train") at every single chance he got. NewsTalk 1010's "Touchdowns and Fumbles" even mentioned what a touchdown it was for him to get this line in, often multiple times, during an interview on subjects having nothing to do with City Hall waste.

Somebody please provide a recording or transcript of that interview he did that had nothing to do about transit or transportation where he managed to squeeze in a "rapid transit must be underground" into the conversation.

Don't work too hard - it NEVER happened!

This is democratization of the media and transparency of process so desperately needed and so seldom received. Smart programming by Astral and pre-empts CORUS. Program should rate well, at least initially and subject to The Brothers' will and focus, should be most helpful for The City during these combative times.

Listening to Jerry "lecture" poor Rob on how he would have to "address" questions was almost painful to listen to, as usual Doug will step in and be Rob's voice. The Mayor simply has the personality of a potato, he's so poorly spoken that he continues to hide behind his brother, time to step up Rob and be your own man. I do regret voting for him and If nothing else at least the show Sunday will give him a forum to ACTUALLY say something. Though I have a feeling the audience will alternate between laughing and cringing.

@Patsy I will be listening for the dead air...it should be entertaining at the least...let 'em go for it and we'll see how long 'RB' keeps this going...Mayor Doug will obviously be the mouthpiece for this debacle waiting to happen...

@Patsy To steal a name coined by a NewsTalk 1010 personality (who, I suspect was told to cease using it), it could only be the "Mayor RoDo" show, since Rob could not carry it all himself.

That does have a nice rhyming sound to it.
