Two teen kayakers, 15 and 16 years old, have been rescued after they came across some rough waters on Lake Ontario overnight.
They were part of a group of 11 people trying to cross from Niagara to Toronto.
They set off on the 50-kilometre trip around 1:30am Sunday.
Sgt. Harlen Tinney with the Toronto Police Marine Unit says about 3-quarters of the way to their destination, the winds picked up, causing the waves to grow and toss the kayaks around on the water.
Several boats flipped over and in all of the confusion, the two teens lost the rest of the group.
"You could easily get seperated from your group just because ... you're so close to the water and you can't see very far," says Tinney.
The US and Canadian Coast Guard were called out to find them.
The Toronto Police Marine Unit rescued the boys about 12 kilometres off shore.
