They seem not to have studied economics.
Just as we, as consumers, pay what we think a product or service is worth - shopping for price - employers do the same.
Raises are provided when the value of the work is improved through increased production. That could be because a person has more experience and therefore gets the job done more efficiently.
If fewer workers could provide the same amount of sales, then those workers would be due a raise. But more pay for the same work is inefficient, and damages not only the LCBO, but the economy. That money has to come from somewhere, and it would result in less money spent on other, perhaps better things.
The LCBO employees are already paid above the standard for retail ...

More proof public unions are out of their minds

The Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU), representing LCBO employees, has filed a gender-discrimination complaint against the liquor retailer with the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario.
Their argument? OPSEU alleges the LCBO is discriminating against women, since 70% of their casual workers — those working less than 40 hours, with fewer benefits — are women.
So supposedly this is anti-female?

Decorum and maturity on the part of the teacher would seem the best way for an adult to have a "grown-up" conversation with kids in Grades 7 and 8.
So that would preclude a poster on the wall under the headline "Do You Like to F---?"
But, as the Sun has reported, "A Toronto public school teacher has been ordered to work from home after posting explicit sex-education brochures in his Grade 7 and 8 classroom.
Toronto District School Board (TDSB) officials are investigating why the teacher at Delta alternative school created a bulletin board in his class in October that included a poster with tips on how men can safely perform oral sex with one another.
That brochure can be found in a number of the city’s gay bars and bath house and isn’t intended for school-aged children."

So what?

Memo to Sarah Thomson: The court of public opinion can be vicious and unfair.
You can play the victim, if in fact you are the victim.
Only you and Toronto Mayor Rob Ford know what transpired between you last Thursday evening.
But do not attack the messenger, when the messenger is you.
The most unfair, quick-to-a-decision court we have is the court of public opinion (COPO).
Take to that court, and you run the risk of the COPO belittling and trivializing your case.
I know this, because as a talk show host I hold a COPO on a daily basis.

Perhaps most of the public doesn’t believe her. A crowded room full of potential witnesses which has so far provided none and the shifting nature of her story hour by hour perhaps made people forego their usual inclination to come to the defence of a woman wronged.

Take freedom and democracy for instance.
Some believe freedom and democracy allow individuals to control their own destiny in personal matters and to have a say in public matters, realizing that their view will not always prevail in public policy.
Others think it is a one-way street. If they don’t always get their way, they feel oppressed and aggrieved.
The ongoing debate and debacle of education in Ontario illuminates the difference in an editorial written by the Chair of the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT).

Perhaps she does.
The argument goes that, "in order to dislodge Stephen Harper from 24 Sussex, Liberals, New Democrats, Greens and other so-called "progressives" must, for at least one election, find a way to pool their votes to defeat Conservatives."
So far, so good. That argument is made all the time. The left-of-the-middle spectrum is split into too many factions in Canada.
But then the article tells us, "After all, they reason, Harper's party got 40% of all votes cast in the 2011 general election. If 60% voted for someone else, shouldn't "someone else" have been prime minister?"
Really? Who, then? Elizabeth May?
That is a foolish argument. With all of the parties we have, it is usual for the winner to have less than ...

You Owe Me Money

You owe me money.
If you pay taxes in Ontario, be warned that I want City Hall to pay me back the thousands of dollars I spent paying lawyers and government offices to make my American-born wife and children legal in this country.
Toronto council has voted overwhelmingly to allow illegal aliens — undocumented workers — access to city services and programs “without fear.” How about the fear legal immigrants and citizen taxpayers have that they’re being shafted again?
With five councillors absent, 38 — including Mayor Rob Ford — voted “yes” to the motion “that City Council re-affirm its commitment to ensuring access to services without fear to immigrants without full status or without full status documents.” Only councillors Gary Crawford and David Shiner voted “no”

Not a winning idea for Harper. Not a winning idea for Ford — or Toronto.
The Sun reported last week that, “Councillor Adam Vaughan is one of only three councillors expressing any interest in joining Ford’s inner circle. Vaughan maintained he’s “more than willing” to serve.
“I think that this council has suffered from not having councillors from all geographic parts of the city present for the conversations,” Vaughan said.
It is all well and good to say that different areas of the city and opposing ideas need to be heard, and to let left-leaning councillors into the inner circle. But Vaughan is an active and knee-jerk opponent of not only the mayor himself, but of the huge section of the public that voted for Ford’s smaller government agenda.

John Tory is correct that we need to build infrastructure to end gridlock, but he is wrong to assert that we need to spend additional tax money to get it done.
Tory, and Mitzie Hunter, both of the Greater Toronto CivicAction Alliance, wrote in the Toronto Sun last week: “Increasing numbers of leaders and residents alike know that as much as we still have waste to root out, the money we need now for transportation investment has to be raised and dedicated for that purpose alone.” Translation: Sure we know there is fraud, waste and abuse, but never mind that now. We have train lines to build. As if we can’t solve both at the same time.
Of course we could, but we would have to have in place ...
