Today's Really Stupid List
Far too often it seems we come across stupid things people do.
The list is very impressive this morning:
There's Paul Melnik, the boys basketball coach at Father Henry Carr Catholic high school here in Toronto, nabbed by the OPP driving 146 kilometres an hour with 12 students in a van racing to the provincial basketball championships in Windsor. A speeding ticket for sure. He's also not licensed to drive more than 10 passengers. When he comes back to Toronto, he'll have some explaining to do.
---
Then there's the 7-year-old boy in Baltimore who was eating his breakfast pop-tart at school. He was trying to nibble it into the shape of a mountain but found it looked more like a gun so he showed it in school and said "bang, bang". The school calls it a threat to other students. He's been suspended for 2 days. It's almost as bad as the 5-year old in Pennsylvania who was recently suspended for talking to her classmates about shooting her Hello Kitty gun, a gun that blows bubbles.
----
And now the topper of the morning.
Do you remember the story about the migrant smuggling ship, the freighter MV Sun Sea showed up on the coast of B.C. in the summer of 2010. A boat load of Tamil's fleeing Sri Lanka.
The fact that officials are still going over the refugee claims is bad enough but now we hear that one of those migrants is in the wind and there's a nationwide arrest warrant out for him.
His refugee claim had previously been denied. He appealed it to court. Refugee claim denied again. At that point a deportation order is issued but for whatever stupid reason, the people at the Canada Border Services Agency agreed to release him from custody five days before he was supposed to be deported. Surprise, surprise, he didn't show up on time to get kicked out of the country and officials have no clue where he is. Border Services refuses to talk about it. The spokesman for Public Safety minister Vic Toews also says no comment. What more is there to say other than STUPID.
