A political misstep by Ontario Energy Minister Bob Chiarelli and he'd be well advised to immediately apologize for being so offensive to taxpayers.

Just 3 days after he announced that hydro bills would go up about 42 percent over five years, Chiarelli seems to have just blown off as no big deal the 1.1-billion dollar cost of moving the planned gas plants in Mississauga and Oakville to the Kingston and Sarnia areas.

Ontario Power Authority says the cost to move the Oakville palnt...if calcuated on the Auditor-General's low end of the estimate of 6-hundred-75-million dolalrs would mean a typical hydro customer would pay up to 2 dollars a year extra for 20 years.

Energy Minister Chiarelli put it another way.

“It’s less than a cup of Tim Horton’s coffee a year.”

It's also 6-hundred-75-million dollars that didn't have to be spent.   Here we have Premier Kathleen Wynne publicly apologizing for all that happened and vowing to put in place systems so it doesn't happen again and then have Chiarelli use that stupid line.

“It’s less than a cup of Tim Horton’s coffee a year.”

Be as cavalier as you want with your own money Chiarelli, but not with ours.
