"A bunch of maggots."
That is how Rob Ford is characterizing unnamed reporters he feels are hounding him.
The mayor made the comment on Newstalk 1010's The City. Sunday's was the first edition of the show since allegations surfaced of a video showing the mayor smoking from what looks to be a crack pipe . Two reporters from the Toronto Star and the editor of gossip web site Gawker say they have seen it and believe Ford is the man in the footage. Newstalk 1010 has not seen the video and cannot authenticate it.
The mayor's brother, councillor Doug Ford chimed in too, saying 80 % of members of the media are "nasty son-of-a-guns"
The elder Ford brother also accused down the media of sensational, "gotcha journalism" in the wake of drug allegations of his own.
Citing 10 unnamed sources, the Globe and Mail reports that Doug Ford was a go-to hash dealer in Etobicoke in the 1980s.
On The City, councillor Ford called the accusations "completely, undeniably false."
Without naming names, he also accused members of the media of using drugs themselves.
"I found it ironic when I'm getting calls that the people that were chasing Rob have, not just experimented, but have indulged in cocaine", said Doug Ford. He went on to encourage people to rat out reporters.
"If you see something that doesn't sound right, if you grew up with a media person that's coming after us, and you know a little bit of stuff on them...I've been getting numerous calls about the media", Ford trailed off.
