Calling it a nightmare and disaster, the province's Environmental Commissioner reveals the province has quietly made cuts to environmental programs.
Gord Miller released is annual report Thursday.
The environmental watchdog says the Ministry of Natural resources is walking away from committments to safeguard natural resources and wildlife.
Miller points specifically to what he says is weakened protection to provincial parks, endangered species, hunting and Crown lands.
Looking at five provinces, Miller says places like British Columbia and Alberta spend more per capita on programs surrounding the environment.
Miller says protecting the environment is one of the provincial government's "profound responsibilities."
