Thanks to thousands of tweets send out, the city's homeless will have access to 110 turkeys at a shelter in the east end this long weekend.
Good Shepherd launched the "Homeless Turkey" campaign a few days ago, asking people to tweet with the hashtag #homelessturkey. For every 1,000 tweets, they promised to donate 100 turkeys to those who have fallen on hard times.
At midnight Saturday morning, the campaign's deadline, the shelter tweeted that more than 11,000 tweets were sent out and 110 turkeys will be donated.
The shelter, on Queen St. near Parliament St., serves 1,200 meals on a regular day, but on Monday, more than 1,600 people are expected to line up for a taste of turkey.
