Friends and family of a New Glasgow man left paralyzed by a stabbing are convinced he was targeted because he is gay.
27-year-old Scott Jones was attacked early Saturday morning near a downtown intersection while out with friends.
Jones was stabbed twice in the back and his throat slashed.
He was taken to nearby hospital, then airlifted to Halifax in critical but stable condition. Jones has been paralyzed from the waist down.
19-year-old Shane Edward Matheson is charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault and possession of a weapon dangerous to the public. He will be in court Tuesday.
Police say they have no evidence pointing to a hate crime, but are still investigating.
