An elderly Etobicoke couple has died in what police believe was a double suicide after plunging to their deaths Tuesday.
The man and woman, believed to be in their 80s or 90s were found beneath their 18th floor apartment in Widdicome Hill Blvd. near Eglinton and Kipling.
Neighbours say the woman was in poor health with back and leg pain, fainting spells, and required needles for her condition. She used a walker and it was difficult to get around.
Both husband and wife were on their second marriage, and neighbours said both had lost their first spouse to cancer. They had told others in the building that they could not live without each other.
The deaths come about a month after Dr. Donald Low released a video after his death from a brain tumour, calling for the right to die with dignity.
A neighbour wishes this couple had another option.
"Seeing the way my mom just passed away from cancer, and seeing how these (people) suffered, I think assisted suicide should be considered and allowed."
Those that knew the couple say she had been a dancer and a teacher, while he was a university professor.
