Deputy Mayor Norm Kelly plans to meet with Mayor Rob Ford privately Saturday in order to address the growing concerns of members of City Council and the mayor’s Executive Committee.
Five members of the mayor’s hand-picked committee along with city council speaker Frances Nunziata, held a brief news conference outside of the mayor’s office Friday saying that they have a number of concerns about the allegations surrounding Mayor Rob Ford and the ongoing police investigation involving his friends and an alleged drug video.
“A number of members of Executive Committee have been meeting and having some discussions. We’ve conveyed our concerns to the Deputy Mayor and we’ve asked him to speak with the mayor and the Mayor’s office over the weekend. And we hope to find out the answers from the Deputy Mayor about the product of those discussions and we’re going to have further discussions next week.”said Councillor Denzil Minnan-Wong.
Minnan-Wong was joined by Councillors Gary Crawford, Peter Milczyn, Cesar Pelacio, Frances Nunziata, and even newly-appointed Councillor Peter Leon.
However the six councillors would not discuss what their concerns are.
Moments later, Deputy Mayor Norm Kelley addressed the media. Kelley saying he would be meeting with the mayor on Saturday to discuss the councillors’ concerns.
“I hope that the mayor will listen very carefully and I hope that he would look at the concerns through the eyes of the people of Toronto, his colleagues on council and himself and his family. And I’m hoping that upon reflection that he will make the right decision that affords him the opportunity to address the concerns of the three groups that I just identified.”said Deputy Mayor Norm Kelly.
But Kelly stopped short of saying what the “right decision” would be and said that would be up to Mayor Rob Ford.
