Mayor Ford and Councillor Ford no longer on 'The City'

Mutual decision to conclude broadcasts, ending with last week's show

NewsTalk 1010, Mayor Ford and Councillor Ford have mutually determined to conclude broadcasts of The City, ending with last week’s show.

Of course, Mayor Ford and Councillor Ford remain welcome at any time as guests on NewsTalk 1010.

The Mayor's office released a statement later in the day on Friday:

Councillor Ford and I would like to thank Mike Bendixen and the team at Newstalk 1010 for the opportunity to voice our opinions and give Toronto residents an unfiltered take on the work we do everyday at Toronto City Hall.

Newstalk 1010 is a great station and it was a pleasure to work with Mike and the team. We wish them all the best moving forward.

Thank you for taking the Fords off the air. I can now listen to 1010 in good conscience.
An extremely wise decision. Once again Thank-you.

@Carol Morrison It was good hearing Mayor Ford and Councillor Ford. Hearing how they praised T.O was good. To the Ford brothers, you can still do a live show on! Not a wise decision taking them off the air. It was a bad choice.

Thank you for taking the Fords off the air, I'm sure there are more newsworthy stories than listening to his apologies and lies

@Cathy Always figured Bell and CFRB were gutless. Now I know it for sure.

@CAROL and CATHY: I'm not sure if you people can read
, Mayor Ford and Councillor Ford have mutually determined to conclude broadcasts of The City
..nor am I sure why you are gloating. But it was a mutual decision. CFRB didn't kick them out.

@Karl Burgin they got turfed Karl. it's like when someone in management leaves a company. they always say things like the person left to pursue other opportunities or they mutually left.
you think the Fords would give up their bully pulpit on their own. not a chance!

@Stug Could be company speak for you're fired but I doubt it this side show I'm sure was good for ratings and would have continued to be good for ratings.
    3. Karl Burgin posted on 11/08/2013 01:11 PM
@Stug That's not what the article said STUG.
They cannot 'turf' the Fords because of the so-called 'lying' you're propagating. They signed an agreement that the show would be aired and last for a certain amount of time- around earl January I believe. If you don't believe me, look for the podcast from this past Sunday, when the station manager was on Viewpoints.
To break the agreement it has to be mutual- just as the article says, or if they broke any broadcasting laws- which the station manager said on Sunday. Because they didn't break any broadcasting laws/rules, the only other way for the show to end, wold be for the Fords to come in an request it.
    4. Stug posted on 11/08/2013 02:16 PM
@Karl Burgin c'mon Karl. (that's not what the article said) you're believing everything you read now?
1010 decided to create a soft landing approach so not to inflame matters more. they would have to be turfed sooner rather than later if he was going to run for office again.
not allowed! unless all the people who run get the same time on air.
    5. Karl Burgin posted on 11/08/2013 02:37 PM
@Stug Please don't make me cut and paste.
And I listened to the radio an hour ago, and its just as I described.
    6. Karl Burgin posted on 11/08/2013 02:38 PM
@Stug ...and I already mentioned to someone else that the show was gong to end in January. I was fully aware of that.

@Karl Burgin And if you believe that, you'll buy this watch.

Being that Mayor Ford had apologized for his many lies and deflections and only when faced with irrefutable evidence, does Newstalk 1010 welcome him back because they believe he has finished lying or is it only for comedic relief?
  5. Steve posted on 11/08/2013 01:04 PM
They will be sadly missed. Perhaps they can replace the Motts on Saturday Mornings - anyone would be better then the Motts.
    1. Karl Burgin posted on 11/08/2013 01:12 PM
@Steve True, but I like the Motts though. I actually missed them, and was happy when they were announcing them back. What's wrong with them?
  6. Mary Ann posted on 11/08/2013 01:26 PM
    So...they cut and ran?
Not a chance CFRB dumped them with the recent ratings
    1. Karl Burgin posted on 11/08/2013 02:38 PM
@Mary Ann you are very ignorant.
  7. Sara posted on 11/08/2013 01:27 PM
Hey CFRB are you hiring? I only smoke crack when I am in a drunken stupor.
    1. Karl Burgin posted on 11/08/2013 02:40 PM
@Sara ...that shows very much in your spew.

Thank god!!! Now we don't have to listen to anymore of their ridiculous, uneducated, obnoxious drivel. Although after watching the inteview with his mother and sister yesterday you can see that idiocy is deeply embedded in their family. Mama Ford " my son has a weight problem ", are you kidding me! How about this, I will break it down in grade 2 remedial math stylings!! 20 beer/night x 360 nights/ year divided by family in total denial = a huge weight issue brought on by a MASSIVE case of ALCOHOLISM !!!

So the "Rob and Doug Ford Show" is no longer. What's that? You say it was called "The CIty" and not the "Rob and Doug Ford Show"?

Well, if it were really "The CIty", then the show would not have gone on hiatus the past two summers when Rob and Doug had better things to do with their summer weekends. Newstalk 1010 would have another councillor or two fill in for them on "The CIty" when they were both unavailable. Don`t forget, the show existed before they became the hosts and it was hosted by Josh Matlow. Once Rodo took over, the name "The CIty" was kept in title, but it really became the "Rob and Doug Ford Show".

You all seem to think he decided to smoke crack and it magically fell out of the sky into his glass pipe the reality is he had to pay for it even if he sent Lisi to buy it the transfer of money into the drug dealer’s hands took place. What do you think happens with that money it goes into buying more drugs and guns that end up on our streets. The Danzig shooting for example was gang turf war for control over the distribution of drugs people got hurt and two youths died, then we have this same Mayor show up talking about he wants the thugs out of the city mean while
He is a contributor to the drug game. This is just the warming up who knows what the wire tapes and meetings with drug dealer Lisi will show.
He better run to Florida but he better not drive out there as he has a conviction for DUI that he also lied about. Losers.

Now punt Agar, Doyle and anyone else connected with the Sun Fun channel too. Might make the station listenable.
    1. MrMarbles posted on 11/09/2013 10:29 AM
@Norm Doyle I don't mind because he can take criticism and may say some things because of the Friendly Fire format (right vs. left). Agar though sounds rude, arrogant ,very thin skinned and lacking in any humour. I wouldn't be sad to see him go.

The Good News: I can no longer listen to Rob and Doug Thug fumble on the radio.

The 1pm Sunday circus is over, no more of the Ford brothers... I would listen to this program for only a laugh at these two clowns brag and cut down anyone that did not agree with them.. I like CFRB 1010, but giving these two a show for 2 hours was a mistake. am 640 has caught my radio dial.
  17. MrMarbels posted on 11/08/2013 06:50 PM
No more amateur radio. No more awkward conversation or corny jokes. Thank you CFRB. Now if you could get rid of the "Good Busy " commercials before I throw my radio out the window. Those annoying ads must play 100 times per day!

Thank God the Fords are no longer on NewsTalk 1010. Why did the station allow that blatant one-sided electioneering for so long?

Rob Ford is the worst mayor in the history of Toronto, even without the crack scandal.
    1. jm posted on 11/10/2013 04:39 PM
@UnFordFan I agree, CFRB sold it's soul to get some ratings. Sadly the Fords took them down with them.

Doug called Rob's wife "The Pollack" on the show, claimed he never saw Rob drink, ever. Rob Called the media "maggots" which accurately described CFRB. Rob even claimed that he never grabbed that ass...another blatant lie, was never drunk, another lie, didn't give that kid "the finger", more lies...the station should be proud, killed a proud legacy of journalism which included Gordon Sinclair, Wally Crouter, Betty Kennedy, Charles Doering, Jack Dennett...and many more.

      Ted Rogers, rattle you chains.
