Opposition calling for Matthews head over Mazza

Health Minister admits to never having read a final report on Ornge before turning it over to OPP

The province's health minister admits she didn't even glance at a final report into Ornge's finance's before sending it to the OPP earlier this year.

Chris Mazza is believed to have collected $9.3 million before being removed as the air ambulance service's CEO.

Health Minister Deb Matthew says she sent in an audit team to look into things and read its interim report. As for the final draft, neither she nor the deputy minister looked at it. She said she just passed it on to authorities.

This admission had opposition parties continuing to call for Matthews head.

Tory MPP Frank Klees says this is proof that the minister doesn't understand the file and it seems as though she's protecting Mazza.

He doesn't understand why the government committee looking into Ornge didn't receive the report. He says the $9.3 million dollar number was also hidden from them.

NDP leader Andrea Horwath says this situation is outrageous. She says Matthews has dropped the ball on the issue.

Mazza is currently a fill-in ER doctor in Thunder Bay. The OPP is investigating the financial irregularities at Ornge.
