UPDATE: Man Shot By Police in Ajax Dies

A 47-year-old man is dead after he was shot Monday by a Durham Regional Police officer.

A 47-year-old man is dead after he was shot Monday by a Durham Regional Police officer.  Police say at the request of family, the man’s name will not be released at this time.

According to the province's Special Investigations Unit, preliminary information indicates the following:
• At approximately 10 a.m. on Monday, December 2, 2013, officers with the Durham Regional Police Service were dispatched to an address on Unsworth Crescent after receiving multiple disturbance calls regarding a man acting in a strange manner;
• Officers located the man a short distance away, on Dring Street and Unsworth Crescent. There was an interaction between police and the man, and an officer discharged his firearm striking the man. The man was taken to a local hospital and then airlifted to St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto.
• He succumbed to his injuries this morning at 4 a.m.

The SIU has assigned 13 investigators and three forensic investigators to probe the circumstances of this incident.  At this time, one subject officer and four witness officers have been designated.

    And cue the bleeding hearts: "That man wasn't a danger to anyone! Who cares if he was screaming about the voices in his head and trying to burn down an orphanage, the police should have psychically known the perfect solution!"

      @Z Hey Z .... bleeding heart ??? man was NOT hurting anyone - he was experiencing an epileptic seizure you ignorant jerk !! and there was NO interactioon -they shot him on site ... 30 seconds .... naked, unarmed !!!! i am his sister - he never has ANY interaction with police - not even a speeding ticket - did NOT do drugs or drink alcohol. I suggust you keep your uninformed comments to yourself in future - if only for the family, friends and people who love the victim - and he was the VICTIM !!
