A low pressure system moved in from U.S. midwest,bringing with it some icy conditions for areas of Southwestern Ontario.
Environment Canada issued a freezing rain warning for Caledon, Vaughan, Richmond Hill, Markham, Newmarket and the rest of northern York Region around 2 a.m. on Wednesday.
Around 4:30 a.m., southern Durham region was also included in the warning.
Freezing rain warnings were already in effect for areas north of the GTA, like Barrie, Orillia and Dufferin County.
Freezing rain warnings in the GTA were cancelled at around 6:00a.m., but not before a number of nasty crashes on GTA area roads and highways, as well as areas north of the GTA.
A special weather statement was issued for Toronto and much of Southwestern Ontario because there is a possibility of freezing rain. That's extending from the Stratford and Woodstock area over to regions north of western Lake Ontario.
