Toronto Mayor Rob Ford will attend the funeral of John Zivcic on Monday, the 34 year-old officer who died as a result of major injuries after colliding with a vehicle while responding to a call about an impaired driver.
There was some question about whether or not Ford would attend given the scandal surrounding the Mayor and the allegations contained in police documents.
Investigators have asked to question the Mayor but he has not spoken to police.
Mayor Ford's brother, Councillor Doug Ford believes it is appropriate for the Mayor to attend.
"How can you even put that in the same bucket? This is a police that served in Etobicoke that put his life on the line for the people of Toronto. 100 percent we will be going there in support of our front line police officers.
Ford says there will be no distraction "if the media doesn't distract people."
Deputy Mayor Norm Kelly understands the concerns that some have about the Mayor attending but believes Ford should show up.
"He is the Mayor of the City of Toronto. I think it's important for that office to be present."
