Toronto Mayor Rob Ford will attend the funeral of John Zivcic on Monday, the 34 year-old officer who died as a result of major injuries after colliding with a vehicle while responding to a call about an impaired driver.

There was some question about whether or not Ford would attend given the scandal surrounding the Mayor and the allegations contained in police documents.

Investigators have asked to question the Mayor but he has not spoken to police.

Mayor Ford's brother, Councillor Doug Ford believes it is appropriate for the Mayor to attend.

"How can you even put that in the same bucket? This is a police that served in Etobicoke that put his life on the line for the people of Toronto. 100 percent we will be going there in support of our front line police officers.

Ford says there will be no distraction "if the media doesn't distract people."

Deputy Mayor Norm Kelly understands the concerns that some have about the Mayor attending but believes Ford should show up.

"He is the Mayor of the City of Toronto. I think it's important for that office to be present."

What really bothers me is that not one city official has spoken out against the seatbelt violation that led to this officer's death, or similar traffic act violations that led to nearly all other area police deaths, the very few that there are.

City police need to have the riot act read to them, to be told that breaking the law will not be tolerated or rewarded in life or death and that putting the public at risk will not be tolerated. Any unexcused traffic act violation needs to be met with officer discipline.

I could care if ford goes or does not go and frankly I don't want to hear about it because it is NOT news.

Maybe the tabloid media including this loser station should grow up, move on, and get back to the business of real news gathering.

Update - Ford walks to car.
    Update - Ford says this.
    Update - Ford says that.

    Really ??????

Grow up Gossip Talk 1010. I'm sure you will find you have lost many listeners. Yes, inteligent listeners who want to know what's going on in the real world.

Very disappointed. Was a 1010 listener for 20 years solid. Much less now, and I'm good with that. Habits have changed, radios have mostly been tuned to other stations and for all I care, change is good. I'll just visit once in a while

BTW webmaster - your Captcha system also sucks.
