The NDP wants to make a change to current laws which would give cities more control of liquor licenses.
If passed, it would create different license classes for cafes, clubs, and restaurants. That would limit how many establishments of a certain class are in a neighbourhood, instead of limiting the number of places with a liquor license altogether.
NDP MPP Rosario Marchese points to problems in Toronto neighbourhoods like Ossignton, where moratoriums have been placed on licensed establishments. He says this would alleviate those problems.
Marchese says this bill sprouted from common sense.
