A serious crash on the eastbound 401 Sunday morning has left two people in critical condition.
An SUV lost control and hit the cement barrier. It was pushed back onto the highway where it collided with a tractor trailor.
According to OPP, speed and icy roads were a factor.
The eastbound lanes of the highway at Mississauga Road were closed for a few hours while the scene was cleared and salters and plows cleared the road.
The driver of the SUV suffered minor injuries but the two female passengers were airlifted to hospital in criticial condition.
The highway reopened just before noon.
