Daniel Dale says 'not good enough'

Toronto Star reporter pushing forward with a defamation lawsuit against Mator Rob Ford.

Toronto Star reporter Daniel Dale says he is going ahead with a lawsuit against Rob Ford because the mayor's apology today ``didn't even come close'' to being satisfactory.

Ford read a statement today in council saying he didn't intend to suggest Dale is a pedophile during a televised interview with Conrad Black.

Dale served Ford with a libel notice last week, demanding the mayor apologize for and retract what Dale called a ``false insinuation.''

In a series of tweets this afternoon, Dale says he is proceeding with his defamation lawsuit as the mayor didn't retract anything, instead blaming the media ``for its reasonable interpretation of his words.''

Ford initially said he stood by every word of the interview, when asked by reporters the day after it aired if he wanted to clarify his remarks, but said today he did not mean to insinuate anything about Dale personally.

During the interview with Black, which aired Dec. 9 on VisionTV, Ford claimed that Dale was in his backyard, ``taking pictures of little kids'' and that he didn't want to say ``that word,'' but he wondered ``what this guy is all about.''

What a surprise, a Star employee attacking the Mayor. What do you expect when you go poking around someone's property? When you do what Mr. Dale did you can't expect nice things to happen. While I agree the implications of what Rob Ford said went too far, there is definitely blame on both sides.

@J Those of us familiar with Ford's house know that Dale was just doing his job. Ford was trying to buy our neighbourhood parkland and the reporters had every right to check out the subject property. The Star wasn't the only one looking at the park that Ford was trying to buy.

Ford was starting to launch another attack on the Star and the reporting to divert attention from himself. When you're being interviewed by a convicted felon who renounced his citizenship for a British honour you say the strangest things when you're in the company of your criminal peers. Both Black and Ford have displayed nothing but contempt and disdain for our laws, our taxpayers, and in Black's case, his shareholders who took a huge hit because of his criminal activity, something he still denies, just like Ford.

Like Ford, Black has never apologized and has only attacked those who reported on his arrogance.

    Well done, Mr. Dale.

As I've said before ... this defamation suit is a slam-dunk for you.

The mayor-in-name-only ran off at the mouth a "gazillion" times too may and now he can pay for his rants.

@REALITY BITES Good luck Mr. Dale.... its clear from the interview that Mr. Black asked him his INITIAL reaction about that encounter, not what he thinks now. Having said that, even if the Mayor offers a full apology, its a safe bet to assume toe Star would continue to go after him. They have a vendetta against him since Day 1...

Sueie! That's how you call a swine.....

So, after knowing for months that this person was on Public Property, and took absolutely no photos of his home or his private property, the mayor now acknowledged the journalist who he has called repeatedly on national and international news a ped, isn't?

What changed Rob? I'd bet your lawyer said you are wrong. You are and you will be facing a law suit over it.

You earned the defamation suit that you so asked for.

Rob's deep pockets mean it will not hurt him personally, or cause him any hardship because he is super wealthy.

Strange how this rich guy said he fights for the little guy, but does everything he can to lie to us and take jobs away from little guy city employees who have spent their lives working to help our city - not drag it into the mud, contract out the workers jobs to his friends, and get high on crack.

In our society we hold truth above all. Shame you do not share the core value of decency and morality.

Will you lie on the stand when you are up on charges? Then you can show off what you learned from hanging with gangsters.

@justsaying You are a pathological liar. Mr. Ford never called him a pedophile.

"In our society we hold truth above all." Who are you trying to kid?! Do you hold the worlds most corrupt political party, the Fiberals to the same standards as Mr. Ford? You, like all of The Ford Haters Club continue to give the Fiberals a free pass. Heck, not one of you will even answer this question that I an Karl continue to ask. Hypocrites...

Dale and the Star are desperate for publicity! If he goes to court I hope judge throws book at him and makes him pay ALL costs.

Yep, nothing libellous or untrue here. Move along now.

Michael Cooke is pulling Daniel Dale's strings. No one can control Rob Ford's strings. Rob Ford hates the Star. The Star hates Rob Ford. We get it! Enough already. This is getting so tedious and pointless. Who cares?!?!

SG I could not agree with you more. I am not a Rob Ford supporter. This lawsuit has no merit. Rob Ford never said he was a pedophile. It is a trivial lawsuit that should be thrown out of court and I hope the presiding judge admonishes the two sides on this one.

The explanation that Rob Ford has given as a Father and a husband is totally reasonable. If a neighbour calls you and says someone is on your property or is near your property, any reasonable person could think many things, such as is the guy a prowler, is this guy trying to break in, is this guy trying to harm my family, r is this guy trying to harm my kids. These are reasonable thoughts that a person might have. Hopefully a jury will give Daniel Dale and MIchael Cooke a stinging rebuke. We do not try people for thoughts or what other people might think in this country.

The Republic of Toronto press has nothing to blame but themselves. The Ford home is under siege by these a-holes and they do not respect his home or property. My advice to Rob Ford would be to get a couple of German Shepherds and let them loose. May be a chunk out of a few reporters' asses will deliver the most appropriate message.

@Mike from the hinterland The Republic of Toronto?...that`s funny. Rob Ford is a clown...his house is the three ring circus.

@Mike from the hinterland Bravo You post is bang on. Sadly though the Ford Haters Club will never admit to it. Their hate has blinded them to the point where they would rather set a dangerous precedent heading towards a police state instead of growing up. The same applies to Dale.

Correct me if I'm wrong, (jm) but I believe it was a neighbor who alerted Rob Ford that a person was peeking over the backyard fence. If Daniel Dale wasn't peering over the fence, how did the neighbor see him? I was under the impression that the parkland in question was beside Ford's home, not behind it. When he investigated, Ford found Dale behind his home. After being spied on at the cottage, with reporters actually hiding in the bushes, waiting to snap pictures of the Ford family, which includes his children, I don't blame Rob Ford for reacting the way he did. Ford has a habit (understatement) of saying wildly inappropriate things. Dale suing Ford for this however is childish, and is a huge waste of time and court costs. I mean really, grow up.
    1. jm posted on 12/17/2013 08:33 PM
@Old Yeller you need to go down and look at the house...there are no neighbours in a position to see what was going on, unless they`re the city workers in the sheds behind his house. The only real neighbours are across the street and can`t see through the overgrown mess around Ford`s house. Court costs will be paid by the the participants, not us pictures were taken that night, not like by all th reporters that stake out his house, including CNN.

Ford haslied about theentie incident, my wish is that I can drive home without going through a media gauntlet.

OMG Rob Ford going off half cocked again! It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out what Ford was insinuating with his comments. And then to follow it up with a half baked apology... what a joke. Good luck dale, I hope you hit him in the pocket book big time.

John Tory's interpretation of Rob Ford's apology to D.D. sounded like someone using his "radio soapbox" to campaign for the mayor's job. Until John Tory announces he will not run for the mayor's job - he should declare a conflict of interest with respect to any topic involving the current mayor. It would be the honourable thing to do.

like dogs with a bone, Ford Nation defends the undefinable. When recounting the story, Mayor Ford had Many opportunities to reconsider his words when re-telling the story, but CHOSE to label the journalist as a Ped.

He didn't say this just one, or twice but many times, even on international news. He knew better but used libelous language each time. That's smart, isn't it?

Not too good with his words, shoots from the hip. And is there anyone who thinks this is good?

Ford Nation, the bullying ways of your leader are disgusting and are abhorrent to all decent citizens. On election day, I hope you and your kind of thinking are driven back to the dark ages where they belong.

Long live truth. Long live Justice. Mayor in name only is a foul-mouthed, crack smoking, drunk, bully, narcissist, who lies repeatedly and constantly. He deflects everything and takes no responsibility for his actions until he has no choice but to. That shows low character. And Ford Nation likes it. Nuts!
    1. Mark7 posted on 12/18/2013 10:46 AM
@justsaying Rob Ford is an angel compared to the Fiberals, yet they are given a pass on all corrupt things they do.

There are no bigger bullies than the rest of council other than Rob Ford. Get your facts straight for crying out loud!
    2. Karl Burgin posted on 12/18/2013 10:55 AM
@justsaying "...but CHOSE to label the journalist as a Ped.."
No he didn't. Please get your facts straight before you start. The media were the ones who agreed what the word Ford was getting at and ran with it. Nowhere in the interview, Ford uttered the word.
And if he mentioned the word on international media, there would have been explosive headlines- as before with the first 'p'-word. But since there's hasn't as you claim, I question which news feed you frequent.

And of the one who is being bullied as of late is Mr. Ford. From late-night hosts who make fun of him, to people making fat/'jabba-the-hut' jokes, to dragging on material that people try to ake funny- its all rather embarrassing.

And I think I've kept my mouth shut long enough until now- but I think its now time to reciprocate the mutual feeling- and that anti-Ford members, such as yourself are NUTS!!!!!
  15. justsaying posted on 12/18/2013 12:56 PM
Karl: You and Ford Nation are delusional, self serving and pitiful. Try engaging in one argument at a time and try not to deflect the facts.

If as you say it was media spin, then why is he being sued? And if it is not valid, then why did he apologize? (and I agree with Dale, if I offered such an apology to anyone I would fully expect it would be rejected).

If he did nothing, then what is he apologizing for? Don't say to shut up those who are on his case, cause he never apologized for smoking crack till he knew the video that he said never existed was found by the police! Same thing here. He only admits his wrongs when they are about to explode in his face.

He causes ALL of this himself, though irresponsible behaviors and erratic actions. He is an embracement to this city, country and planet.

If he cares about his children's so much, then he should lead by being a good example to them and be honorable....always...which is clearly something this mayor is not.

As for bullies, Ford Nation decries anyone who does not agree with them, gangs up as one, ignores specific facts and embellishes others. Your spin makes you look desperate. You should be. You are supporting the most reviled mayor in this city's history.

Please take up a socially responsible activity and leave this mayor to his own devices. I am sure there must be something better to support than him, especially you Karl who does not even live in TO!
    1. Old Yeller posted on 12/18/2013 02:32 PM
@justsaying I think you need to re-asses your definition of a bully. Reading the above posts, it seems that the name calling, ganging-up, embellishment and spin, is coming from those who oppose Ford, and his supporters. I have never seen more anger and villification than what is demonstrated when you disagree with a Liberal.

@justsaying You are saying the same old stuffs.. dont we know that Rob Ford lies/lied and he did ALL these to himself.. we knew that..

But, in politics, you don't admit till you are caught so Rob Ford is doing like what other politicians did.. just like Kathryn Wynne . she apologised for all the scandals that her party did but meda is not bashing on her like they are doing to Rob Ford,, and you know that..

In this instance,, apology given and that is the end from Rob Ford side and Daniel Dale chosed not to accept it,, and I am fine with that..

so go to court,,... cant wait for Daniel Dale and The Star's arse to be kicked.. so hard.......
