You'll pay less for Drive Clean soon

Newstalk 1010 has learned the province will announce the new fee on Wednesday

Newstalk 1010 has learned Ontario is set to announce Wednesday that it's lowering the Drive Clean fee.

Right now, you pay $35 for the emissions test if your car is seven years or older.

The province announced intentions to revamp its Drive Clean in the Fall Economic Statement, with the Finance Minister underlining the program will become revenue neutral again.

When the program was started in 1999, it wasn't supposed to make money. But fast forward 14 years later and it has made $19 million in profits for the province.

Critics have called the Liberal government to end the program, however the province underlines it reduces smog-causing emissions by 36 per cent each year.

How about eliminating the useless program. It does not protect the environment in any way. It does not get old polluting junkers off the road because they are now exempt. This is nothing more than a rip off. Last July when I took my car in to a oil changing place, I suddenly needed my oil changed, new coolant fluid and new transmission fluid. This was part of the free service as part of the Drive Clean. I was shocked because I just had a major service 5K ago. I took it back to the dealer where I had the service, there was no need for any of the crap they recommended. I reported it to the Librano's Ministry of Transport and they slapped them on the wrist! What a racquet!

This "scheme" has seen its day.
    It accomplishes nothing positive.

    Get rid of it.
    Period.
