It's the time of year when a lot of people want to give back and many do it by volunteering their time.
But places like the Yonge Street Mission say they are full up for help. However, Director of Volunteer Resources Ruth Pentinga says they're always in need of pinch-hitters to fill in when the scheduled volunteers call in sick or just can't make it for their shifts.
She says the volunteer lists for the holidays fills up by the beginning of November.
Right now, the Mission is in the middle of its holiday toy and food drive.
Mission Program Officer Bill Ryan says there is a lot of need in the local community of Gerard and Parliament at this time of year. They see around 6,000 people over the Christmas season.
The organization is collecting toys and food at their location on Gerrard. The drive runs until the 23rd.
