Man arrested and charged in Christmas Eve double murder

Victims have been identified

York Regional Police are hoping the public can shed some light in the double murder of two women in Markham on Christmas Eve.

In the morning of Dec. 24, a 47-year-old man turned himself in at a Newmarket police station.

The investigation led officers to an apartment and parking lot in Markham where they found the bodies of two women.

David Howe of Penetanguishene was arrested and charged with two counts of first degree murder.

The two victims have been identified as Haimwanti Persaud, 35, of Ajax and Chi-Ling Yip, 42, of Markham.

Police say both victims were known to the accused. They're hoping to get more information about the accused's relationships with the victims.

The cause of death has not yet been determined.
