TTC prices up to start 2014

Cash fare frozen at $3 a ride

New year, new fare prices for the Toronto Transit Commission

A hike in prices on TTC tokens and Metropasses kicked in January 1st.

While cash fares have stayed frozen at $3, the cost of a token is up by a nickel to $2.65. A monthly Metropass will now set you back an extra $5.25, costing $133.75.

TTC CEO Andy Byford admitted in November he wasn’t happy about the price increase.

"The last thing we really wanted to do today was to raise fares," said Byford after commissioners approved the new price scheme. "I don't think it's fair to keep asking riders to contribute even more.”"We've limited it to the rate of inflation, but it's time for the city to step up.”
