It was anything but an easy commute for drivers on the Gardiner Expressway Friday morning.

Two multi-vehicle collisions near Dufferin Street closed the westbound lanes at Spadina Avenue around 8:30 a.m. The closure lasted until about 11 a.m.

The closure caused major headaches for motorists who were stranded for a few hours.

As many as 22 cars were involved in the collisions and the cause is unknown, but police had been warning about the possibility of black ice on the roads.

Toronto EMS say there weren't any serious injuries.

Earlier in the morning, the Gardiner Expressway was also shut down west of the Don Valley Parkway for a 3-car collision. One person suffered neck and back injuries in that incident.
