'Mr Boucher, quite simply, appears to have vanished'

Durham Regional Police say they are scaling back their search for a missing Whitby man...

Police say they are ``truly stumped'' by the disappearance of a Whitby, Ont., man a week ago and are suspending the active search for him in the community east of Toronto.

Det. Sgt. Mitch Martin, the lead investigator in the case, says Durham regional police have had very few leads to go on and that it appears Jeffrey Boucher ``has simply vanished.''

The 52-year-old high school teacher disappeared last Monday after it's believed he headed out for a routine morning run, although no one saw him leave his home.

Martin says police have been in touch with Boucher's family every day since he was reported missing and that police will continue their investigation until they find him.

But police say after a week of searches involving ground, air, canine units, ATVs and a trained volunteer search team, they've thoroughly covered the area around Boucher's home and will be removing their ``public order assets.''

They add that if further evidence is found in another geographic area, they will be immediately deploy there.

Just hoping he doesn't wind up as another Tim Bosma.

Lesson for this day and age is, take precautions and trust no one.

@Angry Bill That is another aspect I didn't see. I'm not sure how he would get himself into that predicament.

Why couldn't Kathleen Wynne go for a run and disappear? She wouldn't be missed.

    I am still maintaining that this is a strange disappearance;
no sign of hit and run and like the cop said: unless his body was hidden
    after the hit and run.

Not ruling out foul play - if it is foul play. who did it? Suspect family?

His car key, wallt with identification are in the house, no electronic foot print
I.E, no credit card being used.. etc etc...

Very puzzling.. we need the Mentalist..

@dama Not to mention he doesn't have a cell phone- which is also bizarre.

      Forget the mentalist....we need Castle.

@Karl Burgin I can understand why he left al those things behind for he is out jogging, so you dont want to be weighed down by wallet, keys and cell phones.

This is a very strange case that requires combine sleuths from Castle, Mentalist, NCIS, NCIS LA, Criminal Minds, the Blacklist, Sleepy Hollow, the Following to solve ..

      lol.. kidding folks..

@dama Lol..... for the cell phone though, I was only responding to the fact that the reports say that he doesn't even own one- I find that amazing.
      Love your list of sleuths....

@RIK People don't just dissapear without an online or physical lead in their mental state/criminal abduction/murder.
This is a man who clearly has the police on his side and sounds a lot like witness protection.
I don't remember police scaling back assets for the anyone else who went missing in just one week.
The family is clearly not torn up about his status on the news, it's all going according to plan. ;)

@ad When someone with a family goes into witness protection, doesn't the family go with him?

Something doesn't ring right with that.. I don't think he's in hiding with the police.

The most likely scenario is, black van or SUV with gang bangers pulls up, forces him inside, and tells him to withdraw all his cash with his ATM card.. he tells them he doesn't have his wallet.. they shake him down, find out he's right, beat him up and dump his body somewhere where it won't be found too easily. That's what they would have done to him anyway after he'd made the withdrawal.

As far as no video surveillance, in suburban areas there aren't a ton of public cameras. The most you might hope for is if someone's personal home security system happened to catch something, but that's not terribly likely. Possible, but not likely.
