Ford sticks up for 'The Biebs'

Chatting on a US talk show, Toronto's Mayor says Bieber 'is only 19'...

Toronto Mayor Rob Ford is sticking up for another headline-grabbing Canadian, Justin Bieber.

Ford was asked about the pop singer when he spoke by phone today to hosts on the Washington, D.C.-based Sports Junkies radio show.

Ford said Bieber is only 19 and asked the radio personalities, who called Bieber ``Canada's worst export,'' to think back to when they were that age. On Wednesday, Bieber was charged in Toronto with assault.

Ford, who has become internationally known for his many headline grabbing moments in recent months, says he's never met Bieber and is not a fan of his music, preferring Rush and Led Zeppelin.

Bieber has a court date on March 10 in connection with allegations the pop star hit a limousine driver in the back of the head when he was in Toronto on Dec. 30.

Bieber is also facing charges of driving under the influence, resisting arrest and driving with an expired licence in Florida. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges in Florida and his Canadian lawyer says Bieber is innocent of the Toronto charge.

Ford was also asked by the radio hosts about a lawsuit filed against him from his sister's ex-boyfriend, alleging the mayor conspired to have him attacked in jail to prevent his illicit behaviours from becoming publicly known.

The mayor said he would not discuss the matter since it is before the courts, but his lawyer said Wednesday the allegations are ``without fact or foundation.''

Ford's comment on Bieber was: ``He's a young guy, 19 years old. I wish I was as sucessful as he was.''

Justin Bieber is a 19 year old with unlimited financial resources. He spent his formative teen age years working VERY hard. He has some down time now so he is "playing". I hope that there are people in his life who will help him survive this stage. Perhaps these arrests will help bring the future and his mortality into focus. He can afford to drive fancy cars too fast, but that doesn't mean he will survive the accident that could occur as a result. He could also hurt someone else and no one wants to see that happen. As for the assault charge......almost certainly a money grab that he can easily afford.

Bieber's part native. According to the Liberals (remember Caledonia) he should be allowed to assault whomever he wants and get away with it. He should hire McGuinty as his lawyer to explain.

@Frankie Bieber needs to tone it down a bit. If he gets convicted in Toronto or California, the U.S. won't renew his green card and he on't be able to cross the border to his big house and his ablity to make millions.

He should ask Rob Ford how it feels to be banned from America...first he missed The Winter Classic in Detroit, claiming he had to be at the New Year Levee even though he claimed that he would move it by one day so that he could represent Toronto. Now he's missing the Super Bowl, claiming that he has to attend "a friend's mother's funeral" in Vancouver. I hear he didn't buy tickets so this is a convenient death.

Eventually he will run out of excuses.

I don't understand his "home life" with his parents. They seem to have allowed him to drift with no parental guidance or family structure in his life.. The father left when he was young but has just recently come back into "his rich son's life"... and the mother has another family to look after... Feel bad for the lad, but he should have a mentor who he could trust and go to when in doubt!! If he doesn't straighten out, he may be gone at 27...

Compare Bieber to Drake. Even though Drake is older he's made a fortune as well. We don't hear him running around like a complete asshole. They both had absent fathers. Difference is Drake's mother instilled morality and respect in her son.
