Woman dies after scarf, hair get caught in escalator

Happened in Montreal Metro station

In Montreal, a woman appears to have been strangled to death by her own scarf after it got caught in a moving escalator.

It happened Thursday morning, at the Fabre metro station in north Montreal.

Police say the tail of the woman's scarf and some of her hair were sucked into the mechanism. The 47-year-old's scarf was wrapped tightly around her neck when she was found dead at the bottom of the moving staircase.

Police say there were no witnesses so at this point, they don't know how to woman's scarf and hair got stuck. They plan to review surveillance video footage.
